Transcribe customer interviews for case studies
A good case study starts with what the customer actually said. Record the interview, upload the file, and pull exact quotes with timestamps for the customer to approve. Try one file free, no sign-up. It will not write the case study for you.
Why the transcript matters here
A paraphrase from memory drifts: numbers get rounder, hedges disappear, a compliment gets warmer. A transcript lets you quote what was said and play the moment back, which is also the best defence when a customer asks whether they really said it. Every quote you publish should be one the customer has seen and agreed to.
From interview to approved quotes
- Ask the customer for permission to record, and tell them the recording is for a case study. Recording rules differ between countries and between US states: in some places everyone in the conversation has to agree to be recorded, in others one person's consent is enough. Check the rule that applies to you before you record. This page is not legal advice.
- Download the recording from your call app and upload it above; sessions are uploaded as files, not read from a link.
- Read the draft with the audio on. Correct the customer's name, company, product names and every number: results are the lines a reader will remember, so they are the lines to check twice.
- Mark the quotes you want. The free quote picker finds quote candidates in a timestamped transcript (it was built for podcasts and works on any transcript with times); you decide which ones are good.
- Send the customer the exact quotes, in context, and publish only what they approve. Tightening a quote for length is fine only if the customer approves the edited version.
What not to do
- Do not put words in the customer's mouth: a quote is what they said, not what the summary needs.
- Do not publish a transcribed quote unchecked: a misheard number in a headline is a problem for both of you.
- Do not publish a result the customer did not confirm. In the US, rules on endorsements care that a customer's words are genuine and reflect their real experience.
- Do not expect the tool to draft the case study. It turns speech into text; the writing is yours.
Privacy and confidentiality
Customers say things they would not want repeated: pricing, internal problems, names of colleagues. Uploading sends the audio to our server; files from the no-account preview are deleted automatically, and with an account the file and transcript stay until you delete them. Check your customer agreement for confidentiality terms before you upload. See the privacy page, and self-hosting for material that must stay on your own machine.
Which plan fits
Without an account you can try one file at a time, up to 15 minutes and 25 MB, 3 tries a day, with nothing to sign up for. Pro is $9.99 a month for 600 transcription minutes a month (10 hours of audio), with files up to 500 MB and 120 minutes each. Pro+ is $19.99 a month for 2,500 minutes a month, files up to 1 GB and 180 minutes each, and priority processing when the queue is busy. Paid plans are billed monthly in US dollars with PayPal and can be cancelled from your Billing page; transcripts you already made are not deleted when a plan ends.
Four 40-minute interviews a month are 160 minutes, which is above the free account's None minutes and well inside Pro's 600. One or two interviews a month fit inside a free account.
