What a minute means

An allowance is counted from the real length of the media you transcribe, measured on the server when the file arrives — a ten-minute video is ten minutes, a forty-seven-minute interview is forty-seven. It is not counted per file, per upload or per request, and nothing the browser sends can change it.

What happens when you reach the limit

A free account currently has no monthly minute limit, so there is nothing to run out of on the free plan. Where a plan does have a monthly allowance (Pro and Pro+, or a free allowance if one is set), new transcriptions are refused once it is used up, until the next period begins, or until you move to a larger plan from Plans & billing. A paid allowance refreshes on the day you were billed rather than on the first of the month. Nothing is deleted and nothing is charged automatically for going over.

Cancelling

Cancel at any time from your account or from PayPal. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for, and your transcripts stay where they are — they are not deleted when a subscription ends.

Frequently asked questions

Can I try it before paying?
Yes. Without an account you can transcribe one file up to 15 minutes, and you can download it as text or SRT. A free account has no monthly minute limit. There is no time-limited trial to expire; paid plans raise the monthly allowance and Pro+ adds priority processing.
Where is my data processed?
On the hosted service, on the Scriptorium server, over HTTPS. If a recording must stay in your own environment, self-host it instead.
Can I run this on my own server?
Yes. See self-hosted transcription; the contact page is the way to ask about a deployment.
What happens when I reach my monthly allowance?
New transcriptions pause until your next period begins, or until you move to a larger plan. Nothing is deleted and nothing is charged automatically.
