How to do it, step by step

  1. In WhatsApp, press and hold the voice message (or open its menu), then use Share or Forward and save it to your phone's files, or send it to yourself in another app.
  2. On a computer, WhatsApp Desktop and WhatsApp Web let you download the voice message from its menu.
  3. Come back to this page and choose the saved file in the box above.
  4. Read the transcript, fix a word or two if needed, and copy the text.

Format, language and quality

WhatsApp saves voice messages as Opus audio, usually with an .opus or .ogg extension on Android and desktop; this site accepts OGG and Opus files directly, so there is nothing to convert. Set the spoken language if you know it, which is more dependable than automatic detection on a short clip. Voice notes are often recorded one-handed, outdoors or in a hurry, so background noise is the usual cause of a wrong word. This page does not connect to WhatsApp and cannot read a chat: it works on a file you saved yourself.

Privacy, said plainly

The file you upload goes to our server to be transcribed, so think before uploading a message that contains other people's private details. The privacy page explains what is kept and for how long.

How it works

  1. Add a recording

Drop in a video or audio file, choose one from your device, or record from the microphone. Nothing to install.

  2. It transcribes

Speech becomes timestamped text, with speaker labels when more than one person talks.

  3. Read, fix, export

Click any line to correct it, then download TXT, subtitles, Markdown, JSON or CSV.

Questions

Can I paste a WhatsApp message link or forward a voice note to a number?
No. There is no WhatsApp bot or link input. You save the voice note as a file and upload it.
What file type is a WhatsApp voice note?
Usually Opus audio in an OGG-type file, or an M4A file on some devices. Both are accepted.
Does it work for voice notes in Arabic, Spanish or Hindi?
Yes, the same 33 languages the rest of the site supports. Pick the language rather than relying on automatic detection when you know it.
Is it free?
Yes — one voice note up to 15 minutes and 25 MB with no account, up to 3 tries a day. A free account keeps your transcripts in a library and lifts the guest limits; the current limits and paid plans are on the pricing page.
Is the voice note private?
It is uploaded over HTTPS and processed on our server; no-account files are deleted after 24 hours.
Does it work for Arabic voice notes?
Yes. Arabic is supported; choosing it yourself helps on short notes.
How short can a voice note be?
A few seconds works. Very short or noisy notes are more likely to contain errors.
Can I do many voice notes at once?
One at a time in the no-account preview; with an account you can upload more, one after another.
Can I transcribe a voice call recording?
Yes, if you have it as an audio file.
