ElevenLabs Scribe alternative

ElevenLabs Scribe alternative: Scriptorium vs Scribe

Scribe v2 is ElevenLabs' speech-to-text model. On its own pages it is built for scale: files up to 3 GB and 10 hours, up to 32 speakers, word timestamps and audio-event tags. If you need that, it is the stronger tool. If you want to upload one file in a browser with no account and download SRT or VTT, Scriptorium is the simpler one. Read on 2026-10-27; ElevenLabs' own pages disagree with each other on several figures, noted below.

Updated

Where ElevenLabs Scribe is the better choice

  • Files up to 3 GB and up to 10 hours, and up to 32 speakers (its docs).
  • Word timestamps, audio-event tags such as laughter, and keyterm prompting of up to 1,000 terms.
  • Arabic is listed; its docs place Arabic in a "Good" band of over 10% to 20% word error rate (its own banding, not a test of ours).
  • An API that accepts YouTube and TikTok URLs through a source_url field.

Where Scriptorium fits better

  • A free first file with no account, and stated limits we enforce in the same code.
  • SRT and VTT named as exports; ElevenLabs' product page says "text file and subtitles" without naming formats.
  • No dialect claim either way, but our measured Arabic error rate and its method are published.

Checked on 2026-10-27 from the vendor's own pages listed below. Prices and limits change; confirm on their site before you buy. A cell that says "Check their site" means the page did not state it, was unreadable to us, or contradicted itself, and we chose not to guess.

Which should you pick?

  • Pick ElevenLabs Scribe if You have very long or multi-speaker files, want audio-event tags, or need an API.
  • Pick Scriptorium if You want one file transcribed in a browser with no account, an editable transcript and SRT or VTT.

Scriptorium's transcripts are automatic and make mistakes; read them against the audio. The free preview is on the home page, and the pricing page lists plans.
