WebM to text
WebM to text
Upload a WebM file and get the speech in it as text. WebM is what browsers and many web tools record: in-browser screen capture, meeting-room widgets and downloaded web video. Both video and audio-only WebM are accepted.
What WebM is
WebM is a web-oriented container based on Matroska. Video is typically VP8 or VP9 and audio is Vorbis or Opus. Browsers' MediaRecorder API writes WebM, so recordings made inside a web page almost always end up as .webm. Audio-only WebM exists too, and some recording tools save voice notes that way.
Where WebM files come from
- Screen and tab recorders that run in Chrome or Edge.
- Web-based interview or survey tools that record answers in the browser.
- Downloaded web video that was served as WebM.
- The recorder on this site's own record page saves what you capture for transcription directly.
Steps
- Locate the .webm file (browser downloads folder for most recorders).
- Choose it above; no conversion needed.
- Correct and export. If you need subtitles, see WebM to SRT.
Quirks
- Browser-recorded WebM often has no proper duration header, so a player's seek bar looks wrong. The audio still decodes normally.
- If a recording was made without microphone permission there is no speech to read.
- Tab recordings capture the tab's sound, not your microphone, unless you chose both.
How it works
Add a recording
Drop in a video or audio file, choose one from your device, or record from the microphone. Nothing to install.
It transcribes
Speech becomes timestamped text, with speaker labels when more than one person talks.
Read, fix, export
Click any line to correct it, then download TXT, subtitles, Markdown, JSON or CSV.
