Webex recording to text

Download the recording from Webex and upload the file here to get a timestamped transcript. Scriptorium does not join Webex meetings or connect to your Webex account; you bring the file.

Free preview: one file up to 15 minutes and 25 MB, 3 tries a day, no account needed.

Getting the file out of Webex

Recordings live in Webex, usually under a Recordings area on your account or site. The host (or an admin) can normally download them, and whether a participant can depends on the site's settings. A recording is most often an MP4 you download. Some older or differently configured recordings are saved in Webex's own format and need Webex's player to convert them to a standard video file first; do that and upload the result. Menu names differ between Webex versions and plans, so check Webex's help for the current steps.

Steps

  1. Download the recording as MP4 (or audio) from Webex.
  2. Choose the file in the box above. A long meeting needs a free account; see below.
  3. Name the speakers when the transcript is ready (up to eight labels with an account).
  4. Correct names and acronyms, then export text, SRT or JSON.

Consent and privacy

Recording rules differ by country and sometimes by state, and in some places everyone on a recording has to agree to it. Check yours before you record, and upload only recordings you have the right to use. Uploading a meeting sends the recording to our server. If it is confidential, read keeping recordings private and the self-hosted option first.

Meetings with several people

Overlapping speech and people far from their microphone are where meeting transcripts go wrong. Skim those passages against the audio before you quote anyone or write the minutes. The minutes guide shows how to go from the transcript to the notes.

Length and size

Without an account one file can be up to 15 minutes and 25 MB. A free account lifts those per-file limits and keeps your transcripts in a library, so for a longer recording create one instead of cutting the file up.

How it works

  1. Add a recording

Drop in a video or audio file, choose one from your device, or record from the microphone. Nothing to install.

  2. It transcribes

Speech becomes timestamped text, with speaker labels when more than one person talks.

  3. Read, fix, export

Click any line to correct it, then download TXT, subtitles, Markdown, JSON or CSV.

Questions

Does Scriptorium join Webex meetings?
No. There is no bot and no integration. You transcribe the recording afterwards.
Can I paste a Webex recording link?
No. Download the file and upload it.
What if my recording will not download?
That is decided by the host, the site's settings or your plan. Ask the host or an admin. We cannot get around it.
Is it free?
Yes — one recording up to 15 minutes and 25 MB with no account, up to 3 tries a day. A free account keeps your transcripts in a library and lifts the guest limits; the current limits and paid plans are on the pricing page.
What can I export?
Plain text, timestamped text, SRT, VTT, Markdown, JSON with word timings and CSV, all from the same edited transcript.
