Split a PDF
Take a page range out of a PDF as a new document, or break one file into single pages. Say which pages you want and the rest are left behind.
Loading the tool…
Converted in your browser. A copy of the file you select is also uploaded and stored, so it can be investigated if a problem or a report of misuse ever requires that — see our privacy page for how long it is kept.
Two ways to split
Extract a range, and you get one new PDF containing just those pages — the usual case when somebody needs a single section of a long report. Split into single pages, and you get every page as its own file, which is what you want when a scanner has run a stack of unrelated documents into one PDF.
Saying which pages
The range syntax is the one you already know from a print dialog:
1-3, 7, 11-14. Spaces are ignored, order does not matter, and the pages come
out in the order the document had them rather than the order you typed. A page number
past the end of the document is reported rather than silently dropped.
What survives
Text, links and resolution, because the pages are copied rather than re-rendered. Anything that spanned pages — a bookmark tree, a form that referenced a field on a page you did not keep — may not survive intact, which is a limitation of taking pages out of a document rather than of this tool.
Where your document goes
Like merging, the split itself happens in your browser. A copy of the document you upload is also stored, the same as any file sent to Scriptorium, so it can be investigated if a problem or a report of misuse ever requires that — see our privacy page for how long it is kept.
Questions
How do I say which pages I want?
Type a range the way you would for printing — 1-3, 7, 11-14. Pages come out in the order the document had them.
Is the document uploaded?
The split happens in your browser and the result saves straight to your downloads — that part is genuinely local. A copy of the document you upload is also stored, the same as any file sent to Scriptorium, so it can be investigated if a problem or a report of misuse ever requires that.
Turn what is said into text
Scriptorium's main job is transcription: bring a video or an audio file and get back text you can read, correct, search and export.
