OGG to text

OGG to text

Upload an OGG file and read what is said in it. OGG is an open container that most often holds Vorbis or Opus audio; you will meet it as a WhatsApp or Telegram voice message, a game or browser recording, or an export from open-source audio tools.

Free preview: one file up to 15 minutes and 25 MB, 3 tries a day, no account needed.

What an OGG file is

OGG is a container, not a codec. Inside it there may be Vorbis audio (the older, general-purpose choice) or Opus (the newer one built for speech and low delay). Both are accepted here, together with the .oga extension some tools use for audio-only OGG. You do not need to know which one you have.

Where to find OGG files

  • Telegram voice messages are OGG files with Opus audio; save one from Telegram Desktop or export it from the mobile app, then upload it. See Telegram voice message to text.
  • Android WhatsApp voice notes are commonly saved as .opus (the same codec in an OGG wrapper); see Opus to text and the WhatsApp page.
  • Audacity and other open-source editors can export OGG Vorbis.
  • Some browsers' recording demos and web call tools save OGG.

Steps

  1. Locate the .ogg or .oga file; on a phone, share it to Files or save to Downloads first.
  2. Choose it in the box above.
  3. Check the transcript while listening and correct names and numbers.
  4. Export as text or SRT/VTT.

Limits and quality

Without an account the preview takes up to 15 minutes and 25 MB per file, 3 tries a day. An OGG voice message is usually far below the size cap; very short clips of a few seconds give the recogniser little context, so set the language yourself if automatic detection guesses wrong.

How it works

  1. Add a recording

Drop in a video or audio file, choose one from your device, or record from the microphone. Nothing to install.

  2. It transcribes

Speech becomes timestamped text, with speaker labels when more than one person talks.

  3. Read, fix, export

Click any line to correct it, then download TXT, subtitles, Markdown, JSON or CSV.

Questions

Can I upload OGG without converting it?
Yes. OGG, Opus and the other formats listed on the formats page are read directly.
Is OGG the same as Opus?
No. Opus is an audio codec that is often stored inside an OGG container. A file called .ogg may contain Vorbis or Opus; both work.
Why does my OGG voice message transcribe as the wrong language?
Short clips make automatic language detection unreliable. Pick the language in the app or upload a longer clip.
Is it free?
Yes — one file up to 15 minutes and 25 MB with no account, up to 3 tries a day. A free account keeps your transcripts in a library and lifts the guest limits; the current limits and paid plans are on the pricing page.
What can I export?
Plain text, timestamped text, SRT, VTT, Markdown, JSON with word timings and CSV, all from the same edited transcript.
